Maureen is the mother of two adult children Alex and Caitlin. Caitlin has complex needs including Severe Learning disability, Autism and Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia. However she lives independently with support, has some permitted work and is doing her best to live a good life. Maureen is the current chair and founding member of her Parent Carer Forum in Sunderland. She was selected to become the North East and Cumbria representative to the National Network of Parent Carer Forums (NNPCF) in 2013 and has had the honour of being co-chair of the NNPCF since 2015. Maureen fundamentally believes that services designed and commissioned to meet the needs of children and young people with SEND achieve better outcomes for those children and young people if those that design and commission them work in co-production with parent carers. Prior to being with the NNPCF Maureen worked for the DHSS from 1976 to 1993 and as a part time lecturer at Peterlee college, Co. Durham teaching Health and Social Care from 1993-1997.

  • They will draw out the common themes in examples where the system is working and where it is not
  • Drawing on case studies, they will outline the central role of strategic and individual co-production with families in improving services and outcomes
