Lesley has been a senior leader and a headteacher within mainstream and special schools. In 2012 she was appointed as one of Her Majesty’s Inspectors (HMI) for Schools and was Ofsted’s National Lead for special educational needs and disability (SEND). Since 2017, Lesley has worked as an independent education consultant. She regularly delivers keynote presentations and training to school leaders, national organisations and local authority leaders on SEND and leadership and management.  

  • Exploring how education, care and health providers can effectively demonstrate co-production, to meet expectations of the Education Inspection Framework, and those of CQC as part of local area inspections
  • Ensuring a joined-up approach to SEND support: Analysing successful Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans
  • Considering what a ‘broad and balanced curriculum’ looks like for children with SEND, how to map an existing curriculum offer against diverse needs
  • Evaluating the use of assessments to ensure proportionality and encouragement of further progress
  • Highlighting best practice in demonstrating effective safeguarding practices for children with SEND in education settings
